Breastfeeding Anxiety Hypnotherapy
Worry about whether the baby has had enough milk, whether supply will fail, or whether you are feeding "properly" can become a panic loop that repeats at every feed. Clinical hypnotherapy can help with that anxiety. It is not lactation medical advice, and we do not diagnose or treat low supply, latch, or mastitis.
Money page: breastfeeding anxiety. What-is: what is breastfeeding anxiety. Hub: /parenting. For feeding physiology see your GP, midwife, or a lactation consultant, or contact the Australian Breastfeeding Association helpline on 1800 686 268.
What hypnotherapy targets
- Panic or dread before or during feeds, even when feeding is going well medically
- Catastrophic thoughts about supply, growth, or harm that persist despite reassurance
- Body tension that makes let-down or settling harder
- Constant checking: weighing, timing feeds, comparing to milestones
- Shame and comparison that is out of proportion to the actual feeding situation
If mood or panic is wider than feeding, extending into sleep, bonding, or general new-parent worry, postnatal anxiety or postnatal depression may be the better-fitting page.
How sessions work
The initial consultation focuses on when and how the anxiety shows up around feeds, separate from any medical feeding question. Returning sessions use hypnotic techniques to interrupt the catastrophic-thought pattern and reduce pre-feed dread, so feeding starts to feel manageable rather than threatening. Sessions can be timed around your baby's feeding schedule, and it is entirely normal to have your baby with you.
What we do not treat
We do not manage mastitis, latch technique, or milk supply as a medical service. Hypnotherapy complements those clinicians rather than replacing them. Medication decisions while breastfeeding always stay with your doctor. If you are ever concerned about your baby's weight gain or feeding pattern, contact your GP, midwife, or the ABA promptly rather than waiting for your next session.

FAQ
Will hypnotherapy help my milk supply? No. Hypnotherapy addresses the anxiety and stress around feeding, not the physiology of feeding. See the ABA or a lactation consultant for supply questions.
Can I bring my baby to sessions? Yes. Sessions can be timed around feeds and it is normal to have your baby with you.
Is this only for breastfeeding parents? The dread and checking pattern can also affect parents who are combination or formula feeding and still feel anxious about whether their baby is getting enough.
How many sessions are typical? Most clients complete an intake plus 2 to 5 returning sessions.
